As a precaution, sensitive consumers are advised to boil drinking water for drinking, but it is safe to use the water for other purposes.

This affects Bifröst and Varmaland as well as a number of summer houses in the area.  Borgarnes receives water from other sources, so the recommendations do NOT cover residents and businesses in Borgarnes.

The water is disinfected with UV lamps to prevent unwanted micro-organisms, but the effectiveness can decrease with increased turbidity. The water source in Grábrókarhraun is more sensitive to seismic activity than our other water sources.  Health Authority is taking samples to confirm the water quality and the results will be available tomorrow.

To ensure fire prevention, it is not possible to take the water source out of operation.
