Billing

Veitur issues three main types of bills. General energy bills, bills for water supply and wastewater. Finally, bills for connections.

Outstanding unpaid bills

Veitur does not want people to be without electricity and/or hot water. It is always better to contact us before it gets to this and solve the issue together.

  • I received a text message. What should I do?

We encourage you to pay unpaid bills as soon as possible or ask for a payment plan. It will help you to pay unpaid bills that have gathered over time. You can contact us here

  • I am not able to pay the bills now.

You can ask for a payment plan here.

  • Where can I see more information on my bills?

On My pages, please note that the page is only in Icelandic. Please contact our live chat if you need assistance.

  • How much does it cost to have a payment plan on unpaid bills?

Setting up a payment plan is free, but interest will be added to the outstanding amount.

  • Is there extra cost if I do not pay my bill?

Yes, interests are always added to the amount as well as extra cost for the reminding letters you receive. If you do not pay the bills it will lead to the shutting down of electricity and/or hot water and this can be very costly for the customers. Here you can see the costs (only in Icelandic). Please contact us on our live chat if you need assistance or explanation.

  • I have a payment plan but always get two bills

One bill is for part of your payment plan, but the other one is your monthly bill from Veitur. You will receive two bills as long as you are paying according to the payment plan.

  • The process when bills are not paid

Please note that additional costs are added to the bill in every step below.

    1. Warning letter: 20 days after the due date of the bill
    2. Text message reminder: Sent 27 days after the due date of the bill
    3. Second warning letter: Sent 35 days after the due date of the bill
    4. Final warning letter: Sent 45 days after the due date
    5. Last reminder via text message: Sent 55 days after the due date and then you only have very few days until we will shut down your electricity and/or hot water.

Please note that if newer bills have not been paid you will also start receiving warning letters for them.
