Veitur are responsible for the distribution of electricity in their utility area. You have to buy the electricity itself directly from the electricity supplier. It is independent of where you live and which utility company distributes electricity to you.
No, we at Veitur only distribute electricity, you must buy the electricity itself from an electricity supplier. You have seven days from the time you are a registered for the electricity meter, before Veitur sends you the first reminder to choose an electricity dealer.

You have 7 days from the time you are registered for the meter, after seven days Veitur will send you a reminder to choose an electricity supplier. If no contract has been made with an electricity supplier 30 days after you are registered for the electricity meter, Veitur must cut off the electricity.
You must choose an electricity supplier so that Veitur can distribute the electricity to you. Electricity suppliers can be found on Orkustofnun website and Veitur can not help you with the choice.
Veitur do not have information about which electricity supplier you have a contract with, Veitur receive a notification if you do not have a contract with a supplier. We advise people to review the overview of their monthly bills, there you can usually find the name of the electricity supplier.
You either need to renew the contract with the supplier or make a new contract with an electricity supplier. Veitur are not allowed to distribute electricity to customers who do not have a contract with an electricity supplier.
Veitur have been notified that the electricity supplier has terminated the contract with you. That means you will either have to renew that contract or make a new contract with a supplier soon as possible.
8 days after the termination of the contract, we send out a notice that the supplier has canceled the contract and that you must renew the contract or make a new one with another electricity supplier.
28 days after that reminder, if the customer does not have a contract, we cut off the power if the matter is not dealt with immediately.

You need to make a contract with a electricity supplier and send Veit a copy of the confirmation from the electricity supplier about the contract to innheimta@veitur.is.

On weekdays between 16:00 - 20:00 you can request an opening for a fee according to the service fees list. If the confirmation is received after 20:00 or on a weekend, you will have to wait until the next working day.

Once the power has been cut off, it can be costly to get it back on, but an opening fee is charged for opening after 4:00 PM or outside of business hours. That fee is ISK 29,729 with 24% VAT.
