No hot water in Hafnarfjörður and a small part of Garðabær

- .

There will be no hot water in all of Hafnarfjörður and a small part of Garðabær from 10 PM (22h00) August 21 until 10 AM (10h00) August 23.

All of Hafnarfjörður and a small part of Garðabær will have no hot water from Monday night 21 August at 10 PM until Wednesday morning at 10 PM. See map of the affected area.

Due to the connection of a new district heating pipe that will secure hot water for the residents of Hafnarfjörður in the future.

Veitur Utilities has planned the shutdown to be at a time when hot water usage is at a minimum. We understand that this can be inconvenient for residents and businesses, but unfortunately, it is necessary for such a large development.

The shutdown is related to construction works at Álfaskeið and Sólvangsvegur, which have been ongoing since November last year and are scheduled to be completed this fall. We are renovating the district heating system to increase transport capacity and to meet the increased demand in the municipality due to the increase in the number of residential buildings and the expansion of the town. The goal is to ensure hot water for all residents of Hafnarfjörður for decades to come.

The following streets in Garðabær will be affected by the closure: Boðahlein, Naustahlein, Hraunholt, Hraungarðar, Hraunhóll, Hraunhamrar, Hrauntunga, Hraunkot, Hraunborg, Gimli, Björk, Brandstaðir, Garðahraun, Miðhraun, Norðurhraun, Suðurhraun og Vesturhraun.

Do you really need to shut down the water completely?
Unfortunately we must, yes. We understand the inconvenience for residents and businesses, however such a large development requires this shutdown.

Will some residents get the hot water sooner than others?
Yes, possibly the residents in the north part of Hafnarfjörður and Garðabær will receive hot water before the announced time. This will depend on the successful connection of one part of the main pipes.

What happens if I get hot water before 10 AM on Wednesday August 23?
If you are receiving hot water before the announced time it is unlikely that it will shut down again unless we have an unforeseeable incident.

What if the water pressure is low when the hot water is running again?
It may take some time before the water pressure is back to normal. Please be patient.

What if the water is not back on at 10 AM on Wednesday?
In some places this is to be expected and we ask for your patience and understanding. The hot water will be running again soon.
