District heating

We at Veitur operate district heating systems in the capital region, southern, and western Iceland. Our responsibility is to provide a reliable supply of hot water, serving 65% of the population. The hot water is renewable and produced from geothermal wells and geothermal power plants. Veitur is responsible for distributing the hot water directly to consumers through the supply system which consists of pipes, tanks, and pump stations. Veitur aims for consistent availability throughout the year.
